NYC Harlem and Gospel Tour by Bus

We had a wonderful time. Our guide was well-informed and pleasant. It was raining a lot so some of the walking tour was skipped and instead we took the bus. Maybe that is why we missed out on seeing Malcolm X mosque, which we were really looking forward to seeing and hearing about. The Gospel service was amazing, and we were so happy that we got to participate in the singing.

Was expecting a choir, but enjoyed the church singers anyway. Our reservation said 9-11 am but was actually 9-1:00 from pick up to return, check if time is an issue.

The Harlem and Gospel tour was a complete disappointment. I was expecting a tour which will describe the strong ties as well as atmosphere and harsh reality that nourished the development of the Gospel music .Instead we were led through Colombia University,the riverside and general Grant mausoleum . Then came a short stop at the Apolo theater front and finally a stop at a church where a choir performed a Gospel show for us. The show did not feel genuine and we were truely disappointed as we expected to join a black community on its true Sunday services. The guidance was quite annoying as the assembled group consisted 3 languages speaking people : A large group of Italians who got their guidance in the bus by means of a loudspeaker and two smaller french and english speaking people who had to make big efforts to hear the guide. For us it was a lost day of a short first visit to NYC. We have later found out that the company that organized this tour is Italian and it looks like a cynical approach to complete the empty spots of an Italian group By different languages speaking people for economical reasons rather than for the quality and adequate reward that this people deserve .

Well worth doing,and the stops on the way were also excellent (Columbia University,Riverside Church & General Grant Memorial).

Il s'agissait de mon 3ème séjour à New York, avec chaque fois visite de Harlem & messe Gospel. Cette fois-ci, j'étais accompagné de me fille & de ma petite fille. Si la visite de Harlem était plus complète que les fois précédentes, nous avons été très déçus de la messe Gospel que je qualifierais d'attrape-touristes : présence quasi-exclusive de touristes, absence de tenues "Gospel", photos autorisées & ainsi de suite. Nous nous attendions à tout autre chose, notamment en voyant la photo de présentation.

Non potevo perdermi uno dei pezzi forti di NY. Questo è il tour che tutti devono fare perché harlem è un quartiere che molti snobbano ma che rappresenta la vera anima newyorkese. Bellissimo il tour, organizzato bene ... e che dire del Gospel? Un sogno, come nei film che abbiamo sempre visto. Esperienza da ripetere
