The tour ends at the Orpheum Theater, two blocks from the starting point.

This Memphis ghost walking tour begins on Beale Street, one of the most iconic streets in America. Beyond this 2-mile stretch of blues clubs and restaurants, however, lies a darker history of vice, voodoo, phantoms, ghosts and lost souls. Hear the tales of an eerie past while visiting some of Memphis' oldest sites.

Follow the expert storyteller guide through the town to discover Memphis in a completely different way than the regular tours—in search of its haunted places where a lesser-known history is uncovered.

See the Orpheum Theatre, one of the few remaining movie palaces of the 1920s and home of a ghost named Mary, who has haunted performances here since 1921; the John Alexander Austin House, a Victorian-era mansion said to be haunted by two lovers; the Gayoso House apartment building; and the location of Memphis' haunted piano.

Finally, receive a tour of the notorious Ernestine and Hazel's, well known as one of the most haunted buildings in Memphis. Take a look around this former brothel turned bar, which is home to several ghosts—and a haunted jukebox.

I BOOKED A second tour{HISTORICAL WALKING TOUR } in 2 days I would like to know why I was charged more for this tour than the walking ghost tour on Tuesday night I also had received an e-email after i purchased the first your that if I purchased a c=second tour I would receive a 15% discount on a second In addition I had to make 4 different calls to reserve the second tour as the personnel at the Beals street meeting point said they could not book my reservation on Tuesday night prior to the start of the ghost tour i was given a number to call wbut when I called I was told that I needed to call a different number .When I called that number I was told I would be connected to the general office which when the line connected stated they were closed. As such called the second number back and had to force the person to make the reservation for the next morning but was charged more for the second tour than the first one not very good customer service and not very ethical

Not worth the time or money…

While our guide Jay was enthusiastic and did a wonderful job explaining all the ‘haunts’, your website said, “Explore” Earnestine and Hazel’s …as well as the Orpheum Theatre, etc, giving the impression that we would be ENTERING the buildings and not just standing in front of them. Your explanation about ‘what’s included ‘ on your website should make this clear it is very deceiving. What a disappointment.

Birthday trip for hubs.

My husband and I came to Memphis for a night for his birthday. This was the only thing we booked before making the trip and I’m glad we did. Kate, our guide, was amazing and took the time to stop and show us historical stuff along the tour as well as the ghost stories. I highly recommend! Be sure you have comfy shoes though. It’s a good walk.

Waste of time and money

This was not a good tour. It was 95% random instructions, walking silently, pointing out random places that weren't even ghost related, and then plugging other tours. There was maybe 5% generic ghost stuff that wasn't all that interesting. I wouldn't recommend this tour to anyone.

Kate was a great guide! Her stories were interesting with added humor and history- I learned so much! Zoom in on my photo and you may see a figure standing on the balcony!!

Kate was a great tour...

Kate was a great tour guide providing detailed enjoyable color to all of the stops along the way. At times photos revealed things difficult to explain with conventional logic. In earlier photo note two lights clearly visible in the second floor window on the right. No lights in the room and no reflection on the glass.

The tour guide knew what...

The tour guide knew what he was talking about and made the walk enjoyable and the stories memorable. The only critique I have is that we wished we could have gone in more of the buildings rather than just walking by.

I really felt Kate could’ve interacted better with the group. She seem to lose the crowd at times. Over all she did her job.

The places on the tour had interesting history and spirits. Jay was a fantastic tour guide! While we didn’t witness any paranormal activity, her stories and knowledge of the area made it a fun experience.

Ask for Daniel

Or tour guide was Daniel and he was the BEST! Great energy and humor. Lots of history about Memphis and the Civil Rights issues of the past. The fact that he is a Memphis area native just made everything all the more interesting, even if he did tell a few dad jokes lol!

Had a very fun and meaningful time

I went with my Grandaughter and Daniel was our tour guide. Daniel was very funny and took the time to ask us all questions, play games and even get personal with his connections to Memphis and with the meaningful and important events that occurred in Memphis. Daniel really gave us all a chance to laugh, get a little scared, be involved with one another and even learn not only about the history of the buildings and hauntings, but the history of events that occurred here.

Daniel is the best! The walk is a nice pace with a short stop in the middle. The history was interesting. My son and I loved it. Wish I had thought to bring cash to tip the guide. Keep that in mind so you don’t feel bad slinking away like we did

So fun! It’s a great way to see Memphis. Parking is easy. You can grab a bite at Alfred’s, too. The guide was friendly and our whole family loved it.

Fun but plan around weather...
Taylor_G
, Mar 2022
Unfortunately our tour got cancelled on Friday due to the weather, so it was moved to Saturday night. Needless to say it was still extremely cold, staying around 30 degrees the whole tour. Our tour guide, Daniel, was enthusiastic despite the cold weather and he did give us a lot of fun historical information. My girlfriend and I did have a good time, but we did spend a total of three hours outside. Be prepared to walk for most of that time, and definitely be prepared if you know it will be colder out. There were also children in the group, which I would not recommend as it was a lot of walking and there wasn't a lot of information that they would enjoy or find relevant. Overall, it was a fun experience, wish there could've been more stops, but I would recommend going when it's warmer out.
