Start your day in Maui with a breathtaking sunrise view of the island from atop its highest peak on this daybreak excursion to Mount Haleakala. This exceptional sunrise experience is sure to be a highlight of your trip to Maui.

Start your trip in the dark of the very early morning with a pickup at your Maui hotel. You’ll then continue by air-conditioned minibus on a scenic drive passing the Kula District. and Maui’s rare silversword plants.

Arriving at the Haleakala National Park, steadily climb by minibus up Haleakala to 9,740 feet elevation to the Visitor Center. You’ll see Maui’s rare and endemic silversword plants that poignantly bloom once, then perish. You’ll also witness the sunrise from the Visitor Center area. The views from Haleakala are nothing short of spectacular. Writer Mark Twain, upon visiting the peak in 1866, wrote that the volcano was “the most sublime spectacle I ever witnessed and the memory of it will remain with me always.”

Observe the first rays of the new day slowly creep across the distant horizon. Soon the sky fills with the majestic glow of the new day, and the warm beams of light creep across the island of Maui, illuminating the land below. It’s a sight you’re sure to remember for many years to come.

At the end of your morning sunrise experience you’ll head to breakfast at a local restaurant and then receive a drop-off back at your Maui hotel, tired but thrilled by your amazing morning trip.

Worth every penny and more

Our tour guide, Preston with Polynesian tours, was the best! He was so knowledgeable and seemed to genuinely care that we had the best experience possible. If you are able to request him, do it! This tour seemed a little pricey at first, but being picked up at our hotel at 2am and chauffeured up the mountain to see the glorious sunrise made it worth every penny. One the way down, preston made a few special stops that he thought we would enjoy like a better view of the crater and a closer look at the native plants and wildlife. Afterwards we had a delicious breakfast in Kula. Preston timed our arrival to coincide with the opening of a wonderful little souvenir shop next door, the Kula Marketplace. The other tour guides brought their tours in early, so they were already done eating and gone before the marketplace opened. We found so many unique souvenirs from local artists. I even drove back later that day (an hour drive from Lahaina) to buy more :) I highly recommend this tour, but remember it's cold up there so dress warmly in a lot of layers!

Had a great drive, which was a great tour guide that made sure we got a great viewing spot at Haleakala. Third time for me and first for my husband. Can’t miss this sunrise!

We had Wayne as the driver/ tour guide and had the greatest time. He does talk the whole way but his voice is so calming that it was still easy to relax and still get a little shut eye on the way to the sunrise. Highly recommend this group. So glad we were able to see this incredible view!

Poor refund/cancellation policy

Unfortunately, my wife was not able to go on the tour, so we had to cancel, but Viator was only willing to refund one of our tickets, not both. Very disappointing since we have used Viator with no issues in the past (Ireland trip).

Worth the early wake-up!

If you don’t mind getting up at 2am, you will want to do this tour! The view of the sunrise from the (almost) top of the crater is amazing! Yes, it IS windy and cold (41 degrees F), so dress accordingly. We brought packable down jackets and gloves. The trip down the mountain was extremely interesting as our guide, Wayne, explained so much about the history of the island and the plants and animals here. Breakfast was great at this darling cafe where we sat outdoors overlooking a beautiful garden with an amazing view of the island. I recommend this tour and it is worth the cost!

What an incredible sunrise. Our guide was very informative about the local plant life so that was incredibly interesting. Or guide (same company)The day before to the road to Hana was a local gentleman and was able to explain a lot of the Hawaiian culture. Everybody was professional and on time I strongly recommend both tours!
