Return Details

Returns to original departure point
For this introductory shore dive on Maui, divers are required to be physically fit and in good physical health. You’ll be required to fill out a medical waiver (which you can find on the View additional info' button towards the bottom of the page), and then submit it before arrival to the dive operator in Maui. If you wish to take part in the scuba dive, you must be able to answer 'no' to all of the questions on the waiver. If there are any answers where you need to mark 'yes,' you’ll need a doctor’s note to dive.

Your introductory Maui scuba dive begins at the dive shop in Lahaina, where you’ll receive a 45-minute class on basic skills and safety. You’ll learn the proper way to don your mask and how to breathe through a regulator, as well as how to control your buoyancy and safely swim underwater.

From there, you’ll journey out to a nearby beach to comfortably wade in the water, where your professional instructor will be right by your side to talk you through all the steps. While the dive site can change due to ocean conditions, popular spots for this intro dive include Black Rock, Canoe Beach, and Kapalua Bay. At each of these spots, even though the depth will never exceed a maximum of 35 feet (10.7 meters), there’s still a wealth of a colorful marine life and the chance to go diving with turtles.

Once you’re comfortably blowing bubbles underwater, follow your guide on a tour of the reef at the speed and pace that you choose, stopping to practice any techniques or skills where you feel you need work. Since the group is kept small there’s minimal pressure, and the entire dive is specifically catered around your safety, enjoyment and comfort.

At the end of the dive, if you decide you’d like to continue with scuba and work towards your certification, not only will this Maui introductory scuba dive count towards your certification, but you’ll also be registered with PADI at no additional cost.

Perfect Introductory class to scuba! Ask for Emma
Lisa_P
, Aug 2021
This was a great experience because Emma did such a great job teaching and instructing in the water. She was focused on safety and I felt very comfortable since there is one instructor for 4 students. Of course my teenagers did great, but I also got the hang of it. The reef is beautiful and just steps from the beach in Lahaina. I would recommend to remember to bring towels, some tissues and do not put sunblock or face lotion on in the morning. My face cream felt greasy on my face and my mask couldn’t get a good seal, so I was having to mess with it a lot. There are great food trucks down the road for an easy lunch afterward. Thanks Emma!

Was told that it was a 3 hour experience, and it was actually slightly less than 2 hours. Otherwise, it was great scuba diving for the 1st time.

Fantastic experience, great dive instructor

As with anything new I had some preconceived notions. As a swimmer and snorkeler, it would not be an issue(that was overly optimistic). After about 3 minutes of a little panic and erratic breathing, It was amazing. Class time was easy to understand and no pressure, Hanna and Dave work well together. Dave was our Dive instructor and he was gear proficient, friendly and calm(in and out of the water). He "spoke" perfectly to calm me down, and was then awesome at pointing out particular items and fish to see. This was a bucket list for me and to enjoy it with my son made it that much better. I would recommend the shop and Dave anytime.

Wasted our time

Instructor did not review waivers until after fitted for equipment. A member of our group of 4 could not partake. We asked for a full refund because only one person could not go (birthday person). The company told us no that they would only issue one refund because we had JUST submitted the waivers. We submitted waivers a week before arriving; the instructor just loaded them after we were fitted for equipment. When we made a stink about it; the instructor finally offered a guided snorkel without a discount. I would choose a different company next time. This was not worth our time. The instructor did not stay with the group when we went on the snorkel tour.
