I had a Blast riding down Haleakala

The ride down Haleakala was a blast. The operator from Maui Mountain Cruisers was friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the area. I would highly recommend this adventure.

Extremely fun. Great views, not so great bikes

Extremely fun experience. I would recommend to anyone no real physical challenge 99% down hill. The only reason this isn’t a 5star review is the bike we were given were worn out beach cruisers with drum brakes and only a single gear to petal which didn’t work past 10mph. Also the drop off point was only 4.5k up the 10k of mountain. Still great fews. Many chances to pull over and take pictures. Also a different way to experience the road. Going up in a car you don’t get the smell and feel of the outdoors.

We are glad you had fun. The ride is a gravity-assisted downhill ride. There is no need for gears on the bikes, you wouldn't be using them. The bikes are set up to ensure the safety and comfort of all riders. There is no need for gears, and peddling is only required in a few spots along the route. The speed of the bikes downhill is approximately 20 to 30 mph. At that speed, we ask to just sit back and enjoy the ride!!

John is very knowledgeable not only about the bike rides but the island in general. The ride was fantastic, exhilarating. The equipment was good but could use a little more attention.

Not even as a last resort...

The equipment is terrible. Brakes were super soft going downhill, I had to use my foot to stop myself from running through an intersection into cross traffic as we were returning to the town near base camp. Some of the tires are slightly bent, causing them to wobble...you can’t see it until you start rising and by then it’s too late. Imagine all this while going 20mph downhill. Oh, and they did not provide the breakfast snack of coffee/water as described. This was the only ride available when I booked a few weeks in advance, now I know why...worth trying someone else or don’t do the ride at all if this is your only option.

Super fun day!

We had a great time! Our tour guide was very nice and gave us a lot of information! Just a warning in case you are hyper sensitive about Covid restrictions. Our tour guide was more comfortable with non-mask wearing which was outside our comfort zone. So he was perfectly fine with not wearing a mask in an enclosed van with at least 9 people. I asked him to wear a mask and he obliged with kindness and did it quickly no problem at all. I really appreciated that and only point out that he was easily willing to make his clients feel comfortable and it made for a very pleasant experience. However, if you are someone comfortable with speaking up then I share this so you are aware.

Your tour guide has spent a lot of time in Texas. Masks are not and have not been for a while required there. I want to say Thank You for showing your appreciation of his consideration. MMC and our staff implement safety standards required by the state to provide a clean and worry-free environment for our guests...i believe he stayed in Texas a little too long. My apologies.

Bare bones and worn bike ride
Jason_R

Crappy van with poor A/C. Beat up bikes with squealing, barely functional brakes. Crammed 13 people from three different families into one van with marginal ac.

Hi Jason my name is Shannon I see your a little upset. I am here to help you with this matter. If you could contact me or give me some more information on your trip so I can get personal details on the matter. To better assist you. Until then I am just going to have to respond generically so to speak. The vans are 15 Passenger vans and are equipped with air conditioning. Did you express to your driver that the temperature was not to your liking? Upon booking thru Trip Advisor if you read all of the included information it states that there may or may not be people of separate parties traveling to the destination together. Im not sure if you expected separate vans for separate families that is why it is important for you to contact us and we will be more than happy to assist you and your needs. Here at MMC we try and stay as transparent as we can to our guests that way they know exactly what they are getting and most of this information can be found on our website. Again Jason my apologies again if you can contact me direct i can better understand your issues and assist you better personally. I am wanting to understand a ba call me Jason lets chat and get this handled personally

Not safe. Don’t book.
Letitia_G
, Jul 2021
Not safe. Bald tires. 2 out of 3 in my family had flat tires while riding. I witnessed at least 1 other rider trade his bike in for another one and then go back to the first one because it was better than the new one he got. We saw several other groups with much newer bikes with safer conditions. Only reason this gets 2 stars is that the guide stayed close in the van and switched the bikes out quickly when we had the flats. He was very nice. We booked this despite all the bad reviews because it was all that was available. Getting up to 26 miles and then seeing our bikes (especially compared to other groups) was just scary! This owner is putting peoples lives in danger.

Page may I ask who your guide was? I can only apologize to you and your family and any others who had to experience riding with our company with a guide we had for a short amount of time. We shall call him L. The owner and management team had to be off-island and was under the impression the business was going to run the same it had when our presence was there. Training was implemented and tested prior to our departure. I can only apologize to you and your family for the experience you had with our past employee and ask for forgiveness from any and all who were affected by unforeseen circumstances and mismanagement. I can only apologize and ask for forgiveness in this matter and want to ensure any past situations will not affect our future. I will refrain from explanation but sincerely I am sorry your experience was not as it should have been.
