A magic boat trip with the Magic Merman
, Dec 2021
An amazing boat trip with The magic merman. Saw many whales, turtles, and fish. Staff was very knowledgeable about the sea life. Will come back to take the ride again!
, Nov 2021
We were surrounded by sea turtles all day. It was INCREDIBLE! Derek, Chasta, and the rest of the crew were so wonderful, helpful and kind. This tour was an absolute highlight of our vacation! I would book it again in a heartbeat.
Maui's #1 Snorkling Tour
, Nov 2021
The best snorkel company on Maui! Dont make the mistake of booking a snorkel trip on one of those giant catamarans with tons of people, the smaller groups with The Magic Merman are they way to go! They provide everything you need, including drinks, snacks and lunch. The crew is very friendly, knowledgeable and accomodatting to any needs you may have. We saw all types of tropical fish on our trip, along with manta rays and dozens of sea turtles! I cant recommend this company enough.

Amazing experience !
, Nov 2021
We had such an amazing time yesterday snorkeling with The Magic Merman! Derek, Shasta, and Austin were personable, knowledgeable, and appeared to really love what they do. We were also lucky enough to be the first group to see whales this season! The snorkel spots were beautiful, and we saw tons of tropical fish and colorful coral. We also went to a spot that was full of sea turtles. We saw several larger snorkel tours full of 50-75 people, and felt so fortunate that we booked with a company that offers a more intimate experience. Safety was top priority and the crew made sure that everyone felt comfortable in the water. We were also served delicious snacks and lunch during the charter. We would recommend this tour to anyone interested in snorkeling in Maui!
Merman Team Gives WHOLE Heart for Tour

WOWWWW BEST MEMORY OF SNORKELING IN THE WEST MAUI !!! I saw lots of corals, turtles and butterfly fishes and Holy Cow Oh my GOD “300 Dolphins” dancing smiling and spinning next to our Boat! Captain Jill and Shasta, best team mates. Shasta looked out to see Whales and Dolphins and Here we go!! We were in Awe of Love, Peace and Harmony with these beautiful magical creatures. The Lunch and snacks were BEST AMONG OTHER TRIPS! Veggie wraps with sweet potato and sprouts were luxuriously tasty! Two guys who helped loading us to Boat and back were amazing Mermans! They were Best Team and supper responsive to your contact and help while booking. Definitely want to go back for Whale Watching Dec-March. Love & Light, KATHY COSMIC ALCHEMIST
Fantastic Crew + Fantastic Snorkeling = Perfect Trip
, Oct 2021
We were looking for a small, intimate snorkeling trip that did NOT go to Molokini ... and Magic Merman delivered! Their boat is certified for 26 but there were 18 on our cruise plus Captain Gil and two first mates Matt & Shasta. Captain Gil selects snorkeling locations based on the day's weather and his feel for crowds. On our cruise we went to Honoloa Bay and Mala Wharf. They cannot promise turtles but we were rewarded. I cried in my snorkel mask when I saw a gorgeous turtle with the most amazing markings I've ever seen. Then I was breathless as more turtles swam into my field of vision. The fish were incredible at both locations as well -- and I heard Shasta give a gentle nudge to folks at the Wharf to not forget to look at the great fish too! It IS tempting to only watch the turtles. But a crew can make or break a trip and this crew made the trip! My mom was not up to snorkeling that day so they treated her like a queen while we were in the water. They were friendly, attentive, answered questions about the fish we were seeing, and very obviously love their jobs. Noticing my injured foot, Shasta lamented that she had had a similar injury and that she too found snorkeling soothing versus a hinderance. She made sure, throughout the trip, that I was comfortable. It was a bit choppy the day we went out. I tend toward sea sickness but did just fine (maybe the Dramamine is just a placebo -- but I had a great day with no nausea so whatever!). We sat in the front of the boat with a great view of the waves and horizon (horizon watching: another good anti-seasickness tip!). The crew warned us we were in a high traffic area and then apologized every time they had to step over us to get to the anchor or ropes. The food? If you skip the banana bread with lilikoi cream cheese, you are a fool (and just send it to me, I'll eat it for you). The fresh pineapple & strawberries were melt-in-your-mouth sweet. And for lunch, the wraps were the perfect post-snorkel meal. Note: they take into account vegetarians and my mom had the sweet potato & kale wrap and said it was terrific. The crew provides everything except towels and alcohol; you can BYOB but if you want water, juice, or soda, they'll have you covered. I also want to shout-out to Austin who is a part of the land-crew. He responded FAST to an emailed question and, when I called before he even pressed send, he laughed and repeated what he was typing. Super friendly, very reassuring, extremely helpful. We'll be cruising with them again ... for sure!
Awesome snorkling adventure

Great experience. We saw plenty of coral, tropical fish, and sea turtles. Our guides took great care of us and made it a trip to remember.

Captain and crew are excellent. We’ve done enough of these activities to recognize the good ones and this is one of the best. Very mindful of their guests and the environment and can balance the two flawlessly. Thanks for a great time.
Great Experience Overall-some attitude adjustment could be had
, Sep 2021
The trip itself was great. We saw a lot of fish, some dolphins and sea turtles. They made three stops in all and the banana bread breakfast and gourmet wraps for lunch were as advertised. Captain was great as we felt very safe and he gave us a comfortable ride even though he had lots of the boat’s 550 HP in reserve. The female guide, Casie, was very knowledgeable about the species of fish but not as friendly as expected: I asked if we can swim out a bit to the extended boundary the captain had prescribed just before entering the water, because it was crowded with all the boats and swimmers around us and to see more fish and not bump into people, and her replied was “why would you want to do that; are the fish here not good enough for you?” She repeated that question but her tone was such that we suspected this conversation would go south quickly and refrained from a possible confrontation. Would definitely do this tour again but she needs to adjust her attitude a bit. Why have the captain spend two minutes explaining the boundaries of where we can swim and the history of the Dile pineapple cannery and the shotty construction of the pier only to be forced to stick around our guide at all times. Bottom line though, we’ve been on many snorkeling tours including two Molokini and you have to pick one that’s in a pontoon boat with less than 20 max passengers and avoid those bigger boats with 50 to 100 passengers. Spend the extra $30 and do this tour!

Swam with turtles!
, Sep 2021
First off, one of the owners, Austin, met us on the beach and was super welcoming. I picked this tour because the boat was smaller and the group would be smaller (we had 14 people). I also knew a Zodiac boat would be faster and we would be closer to the water. I wasn't expecting catering from Down The Hatch, which was fantastic (the banana bread was to die for). We went to three snorkeling spots along the coast - the third one at Mala was the best. We were able to swim with several turtles and at least one shark, and tons of fish. Gill, Shasta, and Matt were manning the boat. They were super friendly and helpful. Overall, I would highly recommend this snorkeling tour.
