This 10-hour journey departs from Key West on board the Yankee Freedom III, a luxurious, state-of-the-art, high-speed catamaran that ferries passengers from Key West to Dry Tortugas and Fort Jefferson National Park. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and take in the scenic beauty while cruising 70 miles off the coast through the Gulf of Mexico, listening to the naturalist tour guide describe the surroundings and the history of the national park.

Dry Tortugas National Park is located inside Fort Jefferson, one of the largest coastal forts ever built. This seven-island cluster is comprised of coral reefs and sand — and famous for its bird and marine life, as well as legends of pirates and sunken gold.

This tour includes a variety of exciting activities and amazing scenery while providing a sense of history. Begin with a 45-minute tour of the fort, then wander the beach looking for seashells and watching tropical birds swooping through the air. Try a bit of swimming or snorkeling around the coral reef, looking for dolphins and sea turtles in the warm, tropical water. Visitors agree, this is the best place for snorkeling in the Florida Keys.

Time for a break? Enjoy a delicious buffet lunch on board the boat or along the shore.

Spend any remaining time sightseeing or wandering the island, then reboard the boat mid-afternoon and enjoy the trip back to Key West. Relax on the deck with a refreshing beverage from one of the onboard bars (own expense) and soak up the remaining rays of the sun — a perfect ending to a perfect day of outdoor fun and adventure.

Wonderful Experience!

This was such a wonderful day! Thank you so much to the Yankee Freedom III for a great trip to and from the Dry Tortugas National Park. We were blown away by the history and beauty of this park. We really enjoyed snorkeling around the reef and seeing all of the fish as well! Highly recommend this trip.

pleasant, relaxing

This was a lovely trip and the staff was wonderful. The only reason I didn't rate this excellent was because the snorkeling didn't live up to my expectations, but that has nothing to do with trip experience. The food was good and complete. The adjustments that have been made due to Covid were completely acceptable. Staff was always there to help with any and everything.

Nice but rough waters

Maybe I got a bad day but this trip felt too long and the boat ride too much. The guide was great and the fort tour good. The snorkeling wasn't much that day supposedly due to wind. I saw exactly 1 fish. The island is beautiful but if I went again I'd look into sea planes .For me the worst part was the boat ride. In general it was long but at least 45 min each way was turbulent and even with motion sickness meds I threw up and felt awful.

The crew was wonderful, they were incredibly attentive. They were so nice to me while I was seasick. The boat ride was a little rough but the crew was great at reassuring everyone on board.

Amazing day out

Excellent and fun! This tour was well organized and the staff were excellent in preparing the passengers to practice good COVID standards. They heavily emphasized mask wearing and social distancing and the passengers complied. The tour guide, Hollywood, for the fort was fabulous. His story telling ability and passion for his job were exemplary. The entire staff on this tour were friendly, accommodating and exhibited the highest safety standards. The equipment for snorkeling was very good although I did not see many sea creatures. The water, sand and coral were amazing I highly recommend this tour for couples and families. Thank you for a job well done!

It’s considered a bucket list item for so many of us and let me tell you, it was worth it. The fort is magnificent and the island is just so beautiful so serene, it’s a beauty I had never seen before. The staff and crew at the Yankee freedom boat are the nicest people you will meet. This day trip was phenomenal. Food was great and so was the ride.
