The highlight of your tour is Neuschwanstein Castle, a 19th-century Romanesque Revival palace nestled on top of a rugged hill high above the village of Hohenschwangau, in southwest Bavaria. This stunning fairy tale palace was the inspiration for Disney’s "Sleeping Beauty" castle and it’s one of the most popular of all the castles or palaces in Europe, drawing 1.4 million visitors each year.

Skip the typically long lines to get inside and enjoy a walking tour of this medieval masterpiece. Explore rooms like Minstrel’s Hall, the Byzantine Throne Room, and many more. Learn about the castle’s architect, King Ludwig II of Bavaria, and explore the terraces, grounds, and gardens outside as well.

After the tour, enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride down to the village of Hohenschwangau. Take a walk around beautiful Lake Alpsee and enjoy the rest of the day on your own.

Amazing!

Amir/Viator made it easy to tour the castle. He gave us many details that were not included in the 30 minute tour. When our plans changed he helped us secure tickets for the next day! The bus dropped us near the top, horse carriage down…amazing tour!

Everything that was included was excellent! Just wish there was more time at the end Of the tour to look around at the gift shops. Instead we only had about 10 mins to look at 2 gift shops before meeting the guide to catch the horse drawn carriage. Our tour did run a little behind, but 30 to 45 mins would have been better. As for our guide, he was great! I defiantly recommend!

My Neuschwanstein Review

The busy of the castle and Ming Ludwig is a wonderful educational experience. A little overpriced for a 30 minute audio tour. Our guide was wonderful. We did not meet him where we were supposed to and he still managed to find us and ensure we were added to the tour group.

Very Disappointed

The tour guide was only took us to the door, then we had radios for a short 1/2 tour of a few rooms. The Castle was huge and we did not see much of it at all. The carriage ride was down the hill to a stop. No real tour around the town like the ad stated. We expected the tour to be 2-3 hours. Felt rushed inside and we just did not see much.

Enjoyed the tour!!

It was so wonderful not to stand in line for tickets and to take the bus instead of walking uphill to the castle. Our tour guide Amir was very friendly and knowledgeable about the true story of Ludwig. It was so beautiful to see the castle from Mary’s Bridge although I would have liked to have more time there to admire the awesome beauty. Overall, great tour!!

Tour guide was amazing.

Our tour guide, Amir, was well versed in the ACTUAL history of Ludwig II and the circumstances of his vision and intent for Neuschwanstein. The common story was that King Ludwig II was crazy and spent much of the governments money to build the castle. However, he used his own monies ($75million in today’s equivalent) and built the castle with only one reference to him believing the art itself inclusive of music and art was to be on display. He was greatly loved by the people of his time. To say he died under suspicious circumstances is an understatement. King Ludwig supposedly died by drowning but had no water in his lungs. The doctor who declared him insane did so from Munich 80 miles away, without examining him. The same doctor died the same evening by strangulation from persons unknown. However, the uncle who hired the doctor ended up essentially ruling the kingdom for the next couple decades. There are many more historical underpinnings that make the actual castle tour far richer. Skip the lines and use Viator and hope for Amir!

The tour is well organized and efficient. It was cold and snowing, people were standing in long lines. But not us. We got in pretty quick and enjoyed the tour. The only suggestion I have is the meeting place location. We drove and waited at the designated location. More specifically, the meeting place was at parking area #3 next to where we were told to wait. Other than that, it was great.
