We didn’t get to go since the weather wasn’t good. We got a cancellation notice 90 min ahead of time and wasn’t able to reschedule.

Aloha Jaime_C, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. Unfortunately due to weather we had to cancel the tour. We issued you a full refund and we apologize that you were unable to reschedule your tour. We are all booked up for the month. We waited until the last minute because we were hoping that the weather would turn for the better. Unfortunately as the time got closer it only got worse. We cannot control the weather . We wish we could but unfortunately we can't. We can control our own actions and leaving a one star review over something that we had no control over is disappointing. We work very hard for our almost perfect 5 star rating. I wish we could show you how good of a company we really are.

Amazing and unique experience, good tour guide, comforting snacks, and great memories

Amazing and unique experience going up volcano. As you ascend, it looks more and more like a desert. When you get to the summit, it feels like you're on another planet because of the astrological research observatories around, you're above the clouds and the terrain is different. Good tour guide, well-organized tour, comforting snacks, and great memories from the high-quality photos they captured.

Aloha Angel_KS, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. Mauna Kea is truly a unique and beautiful place. Being above the treeline and the clouds is truly a sight to see. We are happy that you had an amazing experience. Thank you for your wonderful review.

bad locations, poor execution, even worse food

I must have had the wrong expectations about this trip. The driver did not position us in a good place to see the sunset. There were clouds where we were while it was clear a little lower down. We watched the other trips eat their lovely dinner while we had some pretty terrible ramen noodles and very unhealthy snacks. Then we park in a very awkward place where we have to move for vehicles needing to park near us and vehicles exiting the parking lot. I don't call a group of 30 people a small group. very much was not a good experience.

Aloha john_j, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. We apologize that you did not have a good experience. The one thing that we cannot control is the weather. We park near the summit because that is the best place to view the sunset. If we go lower down we will not see the sunset into the horizon. It would set behind the mountain. Clouds at the summit are pretty rare but we have on occasion have storms that bring in high clouds. As for dinner, we feel that with COVID less food handling is better. We lowered our price and state on the website that we do not provide dinner. As for stargazing, we go to this parking lot because we have the ability to turn the lights off in that area which is important for the stargazing. For most of the tour you are in the same group as your van which we fill with 13 people. We do combine the two vans together for the stargazing /picture taking part of the tour. Thank you for your review.

Mauna Kea is a must see!
Sadaf_A
, Jul 2021
Bronson was so knowledgeable about geology, astronomy and earth science! The star gazing was phenomenal.
icon Response from Host , Jul 2021
Aloha Sadaf_A, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. We are happy that you feel that our tour is a must see. Bronson is a great tour guide. He makes the tour not only educational but also fun. Mauna Kea is the best place to view the stars. Being near the equator we get to see a lot more stars than the continental United States. Being above the clods we get an unobstructed view of the night sky. Thank you again for your wonderful review.

Fantastic Views!

Loved the trip! We took a shuttle from near our condo and the bus driver, Tony, was awesome and had some really interesting stories about his experiences with volcanoes. Branson took us up to the summit and was knowledgeable and accommodating. The views from the top were otherworldly. One of the best sunsets I've ever seen. It was very cold, but they did a good job in preparing you. Can't wait for the email with our pictures from the excursion. Highly recommend.

At 13,700 feet and being above the clouds we do get to see the best sunsets. Bronson is a great tour guide. He can point out the different constellations and he also takes great pictures. Thank you for your wonderful review and recommendations.

We enjoyed it!

The view at the top was incredible. It was very cold (30 degrees) all the way at the top but completely worth it. The visitor center was kinda a waste of time bc there wasn’t enough time for everyone to get inside due to restrictions. Looking at the stars and the planets was neat too!

Nice people, but nothing you can’t do for free
Eric
, Jul 2021
The guide was very nice and offered some nice suggestions for things to see around the island. The tour was not worth the money though. There was nothing provided that you couldn’t do for free with a 4x4.
icon Response from Host , Jul 2021
Aloha Eric, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. We apologize that you do not feel that the tour was worth the price. We strive to have an educational and entertaining tour. If you rented a 4X4 and paid for gas that would be almost the price of the tour. With our tour we offer a driver transporting and teaching you about Mauna kea, warm jackets and gloves, a look through the telescope, a star show pointing out constellations, snacks, and you also get a really cool picture of you and the stars. Thank you for your input.
