Amazing Experience and the best way to see the palaces

Private Imperial Residences Day Trip to Peterhof and Catherine Palace by Car
Fantastic experience - made all the better by our excellent tour guide Kate. She was knowledgeable and happy to make the day totally bespoke. Highly recommend this type of tour for a small group. We were a group of 6 and the private transport/ tour guide works perfect. It would be difficult to see the palaces any other way and I am so pleased we decided to use Viator for this experience.

Private Imperial Residences Day Trip to Peterhof and Catherine Palace by Car
Wonderful tour! We were picked up promptly at our hotel and received an informative overview of St. Petersburg history as we traveled to the palace sites. Our tour guide, Kate, was knowledgeable and handled everything for us on location. She was very helpful and made the tour a true learning experience. I highly recommend!

1-Day St Petersburg PRIVATE Peterhof Tour
Beautiful palace but very crowded. Once inside we were rushed through each room. Not really the tour guide’s fault who was lovely.Bad weather prevented us to take the boat back but when asked if we would be compensated for that was told by tour manager that we were getting a van to go back, Although food and drinks , ie water, was listed as included we got none. The local tour company which Viator used was not very responsive. The tour guide herself was lovely and very helpful.

Ali was a great tour guide. We really enjoyed our time at Peterhof. The tour was a good mix of entertainment and education. We had plenty of time to see both the palace and the gardens.

St-Petersburg Imperial Suburbs: Peterhof & Catherine Palace Tour.
We were in St Petersburg the beginning of May. This is a busy time for Palaces, Museums, etc. Our guide made it easy to get in and tour both palaces. Without Maria I don't think we would be able to see both places in the same day. Also she took us on the subway and show us how to use it. It encouraged us to use later in our trip.

1-Day St Petersburg PRIVATE Tour to Peterhof skip-the-line
Our tour was well conducted by our guide Helen. Given that we were the only people on the tour we received exceptional and personalised information and service. The only negative was that it was a bit rushed as we did not get enough time to explore the beautiful gardens as we needed to be at the pier for our return trrip to St Petersburg.

Private Imperial Residences Day Trip to Peterhof and Catherine Palace by Car
Our tour guide Olga is very knowledgeable and never tired of explaining the history and architecture of the palaces and their gardens. Great choice to skip the ticket line and visit Peterhof and Catherine Palace on the same day (it’s just right if you only have a few days in St Petersburg).

Peterhof palace and gardens tour with hydrofoil ride
We spent about four hours at Peterhof. Our Guide Ms. Ulga was terrific. Very Knowledgeable and friendly. We thought Peterhof is wonderful (the furnishings inside and the gardens). A must see on any visit to St. Petersburg.

How to Get There

Peterhof is located 25 miles (40 kilometers) west of central St. Petersburg. If you’re not visiting with a tour, hydrofoil ferries run across the Gulf of Finland, setting sail from the jetty just outside the State Hermitage Museum and docking by Peterhof’s Lower Park. Alternatively, trains run from Baltiyskiy Station to Noviy Peterhof, from where it’s a 20-minute walk or 10-minute bus ride to the Upper Garden.

When to Get There

The palace and gardens are open to visitors year-round, although the most popular time to visit is from May to October, when the garden’s famous fountains are in operation. This is also the busiest period and long lines are common, especially in July and August. Opting to visit in winter means far fewer crowds, and the palace is a magical sight when blanketed in snow—but be sure to wrap up warm!

Highlights of Peterhof Palace

Designed by Peter the Great in the 18th century, the Peterhof Grand Palace is truly spectacular. Marvel at the throne room, ballroom, ceremonial staircase, and crown room. Highlights of the formal gardens include the Fountain of Neptune in the Upper Garden, the Marine Canal and Grand Cascade at the entrance to the Grand Palace, the Pyramid Fountain, and the Trick Fountains.
