Casco Bay

Portland, Maine

The Basics

Keep an eye out for birds, seals, and the occasional whale while you hike along the coast, sail through the harbor, or hop on the ferry to visit Casco Bay’s seven accessible islands.

Most bay tours leave from nearby Portland, Maine’s capital city, and sometimes include a city tour along with a coastal sightseeing excursion. You can also opt for a private charter vessel in order to see Casco Bay’s lighthouses and historic forts at your own pace.

Haley and Michelle hoisting and releasing the sails. The day was beautiful so the warm and inviting personalities of the crew was an added touch to a splendid day.

Portland Tall Ship Cruise on Casco Bay
My wife was looking to get on a boat so this seemed perfect. It was a very warm day, so being out in the water sailing was great. My wife decided to help set up one of the sails as well since the crew offers anyone who would like, in order to experience it. We saw multiple lighthouses and the crew was able to answer any questions asked about the forts and views. We recommend this for anyone looking to just enjoy getting out on the water.

It wasn’t too windy as we headed out of the harbor towards Portland Head Light. When the wind picked up we were hiking over at a pretty good angle. It was thrilling.
