The Basics

At Journey Behind the Falls, visitors descend by elevator to a series of tunnels bored into the rock behind Niagara Falls. The two tunnels, which extend approximately 150 feet (46 meters) behind Horseshoe Falls, lead to views of water cascades right in front of the open cave entrances. The best part is stepping out on the observation deck for a truly different and incredible perspective—you will get very wet, but it’s worth it!

Niagara with Nick in Half a Day
The perfect half day tour! Nick our guide was so friendly and informative and I loved being on a small group as we got a much more personal service. Going out of season meant the queues were non existent too so it was great! Everything ran smoothly and was the perfect way to see the main attractions on a short visit… Behind the falls was SPECTACULAR!

Niagara Falls Tour from Toronto with Boat, Journey Behind the Falls and Lunch
I was on a business trip to Toronto and had a free day. THIS was the best way to spend it! I had never been to Niagara Falls, and so happy to have chosen this package. Worth every cent. Our tour guide FABIO, was charming, informative. and fun. He took great care to answer any questions and make sure our group had a wonderful time. I highly recommend this tour and this company. Thanks Viator for a great day.

George and Bob were wonderful tour guide/bus operator. This trip is not to be overlooked. Small group size and van made this tour smooth and good personal touch. We highly recommend using Tru Experience.

Niagara Falls Tour from Toronto with Boat, Journey Behind the Falls and Lunch
This day was a fun excursion around the Niagra Falls region. We didn't have great weather, but that's not the fault of the company. Fabio treated everyone with kindness and care, and gave great information about the area.

Niagara Falls Tour from Toronto with Boat, Journey Behind the Falls and Lunch
Overall quite good, with much ground covered. Our tour guide, Fabio, was courteous and engaging, happy to oblige picture-taking and small talk. . However, the otherwise positive experience was some dampened by two drawbacks ::(1) In the course of descending into the Niagara falls viewing tunnel our group became separated in the crowd and, in effect, broke apart. Complicating matters, our guide failed to make clear his directives for the meet-up time and place. Confusion and anxiety for us ensured, as it took some time to locate everyone. (2) Our scheduled group luncheon atop the Sheraton seemed to have caught the restaurant unprepared, apparently due to a last-minute addition to the number of people on the tour., resulting in a 15-minute or longer delay being seated while restaurant personnel visibly scrambled to secure additional tables and chairs. This would seem to have spoken to a breakdown in communication between Viator and the Sheraton, whether on site with the guide and the restaurant or at a higher administrative level we can't say. Nonetheless, and in general, a very positive experience, topped off with a pleasant sojourn at the Reif Winery/tasting room at Niagara-on-the-Lake, succeeded by an uneventful bus ride back to Toronto, with everyone safely dropped off at their respective hotels.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Journey Behind the Falls consists of an observation platform and series of tunnels near the bottom of Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian shore.

  • Be prepared for long lines, especially during the popular summer months. The best time to avoid the lines is early in the day.

  • Plastic ponchos are provided and are fine for keeping dry in summer. But during cooler months, be sure to bring a raincoat and warm layers.

Three in One

Niagara Falls is actually composed of three sets of falls: American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Horseshoe Falls (also known as Canadian Falls). Horseshoe Falls is the cascade behind which Journey Behind the Falls travels. It’s an incredibly popular attraction, whether you’re planning your falls visit from the Ontario (Canada) side or the New York (US) side.
