The Basics

Haleakala sunrise tours with round-trip transportation included are the most popular way to see the crater, and save the hassle of navigating to the volcano’s summit in the dark. Many tours also include sunrise-viewing passes for Pu’u’ula’ula Summit, the highest point on Mt. Haleakala, while sunrise bike tours transport you to the peak from where you can enjoy the view and ride back down.

Alternatively, dodge the pre-dawn crowds with daytime trips, guided hikes across the crater floor, or full-day excursions to the crater and other destinations within Haleakala National Park or places such as Iao Valley and the Road to Hana.

Cory, our guide, was excellent. Our trip was very enjoyable and well informed as a result. The Haleakala Sunrise tour was well thought out. Note that the Covid impacts availability of gloves....TAKE SOME!!! It's chilly up there at the top of the world.

Haleakala Maui Sunrise Tour with Breakfast
Our driver Al was so fun and energetic and made the hours just fly by! He was also super knowledgeable about Maui and the Haleakala national park. He’s truly a gem and made this tour so much better! But if you do anything during your time in Maui it should be this!!!

East Maui 45-minute Helicopter Tour over Haleakala Crater
Cool experience. Not really for small children. They were bored. It’s best if you are in the front the back doesn’t get the best angles. Cool but just do road to Hana to get the real experience and save money 💰

East Maui 45-minute Helicopter Tour over Haleakala Crater
The tour was rerouted over Molokai island due to clouds on Maui to see the highest sea cliffs & amazing waterfalls and we were SO HAPPY! Air Maui has great service and very friendly pilots, definitely seek a trip to less viewed areas than the crater if you’ve already been to Haleakala- amazing!

Haleakala Sunrise Best Guided Bike Tour with Bike Maui
We had a fun time on our bike ride. We were picked up really early (we booked a long time ago and transportation was included - it might not be now). We had a great van driver - Eddie, who provided some great history. We also had a great bike ride guide but I forgot his name. You might want to bring a jacket for the volcano because it is chilly and they ran out of jackets in smaller sizes. The bikes go really fast but if you aren’t comfortable, you can always ride in the van. Fun day!

Haleakala Maui Sunrise Tour with Breakfast
This was a great experience to be able to see the sunrise on Haleakala. Be warn that it gets cold and windy up there, so, do dress in layers to wait for the sunrise. A hot cup of coffee and breakfast will help warm you up after the sunrise tour.

Started the adventure well before sunrise and enjoyed a sunrise view from top of a mountain. Never thought I could be cold in Hawaii by well worth it.

Haleakala Maui Sunrise Tour with Breakfast
The Haleakala Maui sunrise tour with breakfast was terrific. We had a fantastic tour guide. Not sure you are able to select a tour guide, but Preston was terrific! He really wanted to make sure his passengers had a great time and had a fantastic experience. We were able to see both sides of the crater and got to see a silver sword blossom, very rare. Great job! Thanks.

Exploring Upcountry Maui

Upcountry Maui, the region around Mt. Haleakala, offers plenty to do after a sunrise crater tour. Head to the town of Kula to walk through lavender fields at Alii Kula Lavender Farm, stop by a Maui winery, or visit Hawaii Sea Spirits Organic Farm and Distillery, the makers of OCEAN Vodka. You can also stop by the western-themed town of Makawao to enjoy some of the region’s best boutique shopping.
