The Basics

Alnwick Castle still functions as the primary residence of the Duke of Northumberland, Ralph Percy, though the property welcomes visitors for several months every year. The castle is a common stop-off on day tours from Edinburgh, which typically make additional pit stops at key sights in the Scottish Borders, such as the market town of Kelso and the ruins of Melrose Abbey. Other organized day tours travel between Scotland and England, combining a visit to Alnwick Castle with sights south of the border in Northumberland, such as Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island and Flodden Field, where a major battle took place between the English and the Scots in the early 16th century. At Alnwick, you can choose between a castle ticket, a garden ticket, or a combination ticket that provides access to the castle and the gardens.

Alnwick Castle, the Northumberland Coast & the Borders Day Tour from Edinburgh
A wonderfully relaxing day outside of Edinburgh at Alnwick Castle. The Mercedes Bus was super comfortable. Bruce, our driver and tour guide was a pleasure. He had wonderful stories of history that he shared on the drive. It was very enjoyable and the views are breathtaking. We were so glad we took the tour!

Viking Coast and Alnwick Castle Small Group Day Tour from Edinburgh
The guide was very friendly and informative. Alnwick Castle was amazing even though it was a rainy day. Lindisfarne is a nice little village with a historic castle and priory, worth viewing. I Recommend this tour when visiting Edinburgh. Visitors would benefit from a longer stay at Alnwick.

Alnwick Castle and Lindisfarne Day Trip from Edinburgh
Very enjoyable and interesting. Seeing the path pilgrims take while the water level is low was fascinating. Alnwick Castle and finding out scenes from Downton Abbey were filmed there was exciting.

What a pleasant trip! Everything was wonderful starting with the crew who greeted us and the lovely tour guide and a driver 2 in 1, the Andrian T, who was very informative on historical facts in a very humble way, ending with the pleasant group of other passengers on the bus, we all blended organically with lively conversations and it made a trip feel shorter. It must've been difficult talking and driving for a driver but he made it seem effortless, which we truly admired. And of course the trip itself in this time of the year (end of May) was so picturesque, with fields full of colours, very picturesque! Alnwick castle is amazing and the tour is kids friendly which helped attract my 6years old's attention. Overall brilliant trip, worth it's money, highly recommend!

Alnwick Castle, the Northumberland Coast & the Borders Day Tour from Edinburgh
Jude led the tour and she was fantastic. On past tours I've attended, the driver and tour guide were two different people; on this tour, Jude drove and acted as a guide, taking us to beautiful, picturesque spots on the beach and through small villages, in addition to visiting Alnwick Castle. The Castle and grounds are amazing. It was a great day, great memories!
