The Basics

Tickets to the Szechenyi Baths include full-day access to the 18 outdoor and indoor pools, thermal baths, and spa facilities, with optional massages and treatments available. (Note that massage treatments must be booked at least 24 hours in advance.) The complex also houses a bar-café, gym, sundeck, and spa shop. For a hassle-free experience, prebook your tickets and enjoy skip-the-line access through a private entrance; opt for a tour that includes hotel pickup and drop-off; or combine your visit with other top Budapest activities such as a cruise along the Danube River or a city sightseeing tour. Non-bathers can also experience the architectural marvel on a guided tour of the historic baths.

Great experience
Based on reading other reviews, I was afraid that it was going to be very hectic or hard to navigate Szechenyi and/or the Beerspa. However, this turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences of our recent trip to Budapest. My husband and I arrived at Szechenyi's main entrance via a taxi. This was the only confusing part of this tour, as the entrance you need to use to access the BeerSpa is on the back side of the building, not at that front main entrance where a Taxi is likely going to drop you off. So, we had to go back outside and walk around the building to the other side. Once we showed our COVID vaccine cards at that door, it was smooth sailing to find the BeerSpa signs just to the left of the entrance doors. A Beerspa employee then took us to a changing room (included in the price of this ticket) where my husband and I changed into our bathing suits and locked up our belongings and then headed back to the Beerspa. In the Beerspa, we each elected to get our own tub (you are given the option to share a tub if you want to). After 45 minutes of soaking, we were escorted back to the changing area and told how to enter the greater Szechenyi spa complex. In Szechenyi, there are multiple indoor pools, but we found those to be a bit crowded, so we spent our time in one of the large outdoor pools. Although it was a 30 degree (Fahrenheit) day, it was plenty warm in the pool... the hard part was getting out! Since we were on a tight timeline due to having only a limited time in Budapest, we only spent about 4 hours at Szechenyi but you could easily stay longer. I did not find the complex to be confusing at all (except for that initial mix-up on which entrance to use for the beerspa).

Easy and great to book in advance. The baths were extremely busy and have a bit of a sulphuric smell. There are other smaller baths if you would like something more intimate. The experience was lovely and fun. We didn’t manage to make it to the Palinka museum sadly, however, I would recommend using Viator or the experience.

Fast Track Entrance to Széchenyi Spa with Dinner Cruise and live music
This was a good tour . It would be best if the tour group organizers inform where to go once you reachSzechenyi (there is a Help desk on the main entrance). I needed to call and ask where I should go and if the voucher is as good as the ticket itself. For the dinner, they should give direction/address for the meeting point. The cruise and dinner was fun and entertaining.

The baths were super. However the booking site needs updating. Despite booking online the tickets did not have a bar code so we still had to que. Towels are no longer for rent and have to be bought.

A Simple Pre-Order

Entrance to Széchenyi Spa & Guided Palinka Experience Combo Ticket
A simple pre-order so you have a ticket before you get to Széchenyi Spa. Wonderful customer service because I had to change the day of my visit and it was an easy process. Please bring your own slippers and towel. Get the massage and a private cabin for your belongings and changing. Both are worth the money. I pretty much spent the whole day here. I didn't really like the indoor pools. So I enjoyed the tan that I received.

When to Get There

The Szechenyi Baths are open daily year-round, and the thermal waters mean that swimming in the outdoor pools is possible even in winter. The baths can get busy, especially during the peak summer season, so to avoid the crowds, visit on a weekday and get there early to enjoy the baths before the midafternoon rush. For a different experience, arrive on a Saturday evening in summer, when the baths play host to the Szecska parties and stay open until 3 a.m.

The Healing Powers of the Szechenyi Baths

The Szechenyi Baths’ thermal pools are typically heated to between 68°F and 100°F (20°C and 38°C), and are famous for their high levels of calcium, magnesium, hydrocarbonate, sodium, and sulfate. The mineral-rich medicinal waters have long been reputed for their healing properties and are reported to help conditions such as degenerative joint diseases, arthritis, and post-injury treatments. If that’s not enough, the saunas, steam rooms, infrared sauna, gym, mudpacks, and range of massages and physical therapies will help ensure that you leave feeling completely refreshed and rejuvenated.
